The last time I went shopping, I dropped in at Tresorie and saw these pretty cutwork coasters and tablemats. They were gorgeous and completely different from the regular plastic ones you keep seeing around and they would make my mom happy too. Unfortunately, they were priced at Rs.1200 each which was way expensive for a basic set of 6. I was quite disappointed and decided to make some of my own..just didnt know where to start!!

A couple of weeks later. while passing through Andheri on the S.V.Road, I happened to see these woodwork shops that had similar looking things in various sizes. I was super excited!! So I took a friend along and went in to ask a few questions. Apparently, they used these MDH sheets to make a prototype of the final designs for the furniture they make. MDH is very similar to Ply which is used in furniture and only cheaper. They went on to tell me that I could give my own designs and I was thrilled. This was Perfect!! Anyways, I ordered the tablemats in a 12" by 12" size and went back 3 days later to get exactly what I had in mind. I got 6 designs for Rs.1250/- AMAZING right???
Here's a few pictures of how I got them table ready..

I purchased these Acrylic Sprays from the hardware store in a few colours I wanted and Primer.
Spraying 2 layers of Primer on the Tablemats, I went on to spray the Gold and Black after the Primer dried out. Once they were perfectly coloured to my liking I put on a coat of Varnish. Let them dry for 24 hours completely before using them.

I spent a total of 2000 for a set of 6 Tablemats, including the Primer, Colour Spray and Varnish.
Pretty Amazing!! Il post a few pictures with the table runner for the complete look.
